No, squares are different from rectangles because all of the sides of the square are equal while the sides of the rectangle are different. ( I do not know if my answer is corret or not. )
I do not agree with Johnny as squares have four right angles, 2 parellel lines and an equal height , while rectangles have four right angles, 2 parellel lines and it does not have an equal height . ^_^ Bernice __________________.

Interesting discussion here, Children! Perhaps we should first find out what defines a rectangles and what defines a square. So, what's the definition of square and rectangles? Maybe from there, you could find out what's the answer.
The Rectangle A rectangle is a parallelogram whose sides intersect at 90° angles. Now, since a rectangle is a parallelogram, its opposite sides must be congruent. The Square A square is also a parallelogram whose sides intersect at 90° angles. Therefore, like a rectangle its opposite sides are congruent. However, a square has an added feature. It is also a rhombus. Therefore, all of its sides are congruent. A rectangle is a square when both pairs of opposite sides are the same length. This means that a square is a specialized case of the rectangle and is indeed a rectangle. What extra properties does the square have? Well, the only difference is that a square is also a rhombus so the square has all the properties of a rhombs while a rectangle does not.
Dear children, I am indeed delighted to read the interesting comments that some of you have posted. I agree with Ms Dee that you should look at what defines a square and a rectangle. Look at their properties once again before you come to a final conclusion. =)

Well, hope this activity has helped you to think slightly deeper about squares and rectangles. A square is indeed a special kind of rectangle as it has all the properties of a rectangle - four sides, four right angles, opposite sides are equal and parallel.
On the other hand, rectangle cannot be square as it does not have the distinctive property of four equal sides. Hence, square is a special type of rectangle but rectangles is not a square.

ReplyDeleteNo, squares are different Because all the sides of a square are equal but the sides of a rectangle.
ReplyDelete*but the sides of a rectangle is not equal

A square is not a rombus. Rombus is different fom a square.
ReplyDeleteA rhombus is a quadrilateral with four equal sides. A square has four equal sides so they are the same.

I once heard that squares are special rectangles.
